The Medinas are pretty much synonymous with Morocco. So if you don’t visit one while you’re there, don’t even bother saying you’ve been to Morocco. The Medina of Marrakesh is a beautiful chaotic place. Expect to be transported to another time; you’ll get lost in narrow alleyways with aromas of spices, and oils. You’ll see people transporting goods on camels and everyone is selling something. There are tons of shops with things such as rugs, slippers, traditional clothing, lanterns and teapots. On a scale of one to ten, the hustle and bustle of the Medina is an eleven. So, in other words, you definitely want to experience the medina but you may be tired after a few days.
Which is why a day date at Jnane Tamsna is so necessary. Jnane Tamsna is a boutique hotel that sits on a serene nine acre garden. It is the only hotel owned by a black woman in Morocco and has had many famous guests; including Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Giorgio Armani just to name a few. If you can manage to get a room here for a few nights, great! But it not, opt for one of their experiences or daypasses. Trust us, it is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the Medina. We felt so much peace and calmness when we were there.
Our Day at Jnane Tamsna
After we entered the beautiful archway of Jnane Tamsna, our first stop was to the royal library for tea and cookies. Light jazz was playing in the background and we had the opportunity to explore the vast book collection.
After we enjoyed our time in the library, we headed outside to begin our cooking class. Many of the ingredients that we used were from the garden on the property! We made a flavorful chicken tagine, veggies and sauteed pepper salad. But you of course, can request to make something else.
As our food cooked, we were swept off to tour and relax in the garden. We requested some orange juice and it was basically heaven in a glass.
Finally, we got to enjoy the wonderful meal that we made. The Jnane Tamsna staff did such a great job with the food presentation that we could barely believe that we made the food!
We were even lucky enough to meet the fabulous owner.
After lunch, the day was still young and there were many more things to do. We were tempted to relax by the pool but we were short on time.
We played tennis and it was so much fun!
Later on, we explored the gallery.
We had a wonderful time at Jname Tamnsa and left with enough energy to tackle the medina again!
